This, as with most UAD stuff, cost a fair whack but you get what you pay for. In this case I paid for more DSP to run more UAD plugins. It certainly ticks that box.

Hello to all,
I would like to draw your attention to this product because it does not work with my configuration which is still classic:
W10-I9 9900K-64gRAM-Gigabytes Designare-Thunderbolt 40G-Apollo 6X-Cable 40G very short.
Indeed, without logic, the plugins are "diseable" when the "UAD-2 Satellite Thunderbolt 3" is "ON" and works again when I turn it off. Only, I lose 4 DSP... :(
My Bios and all Drivers are up to date...
UAD kindly offered to change it but they sent me back, by mistake I think, another UAD-2 Satellite Thunderbolt 3 with which I have the same problem.
I hope to be able to exchange it for a UAD-2 Satellite USB.

What I needed to fulfil my mixing needs
I have been using a Apollo Twin MKII for a couple of years now, and i've got used to the very good UAD plugins. I needed a upgrade, so I could all my plugins freely and at the same time reduce the CPU processing on my iMac.

Serious upgrade to the UAD ecosystem
Probably could have gotten away with a Quad-core Satellite but the Octo future-proofs my setup and when used in conjunction with a Mac M1 is an absolute powerhouse of processing power. True I could have just gotten an x8 for about the same cost but I like the footprint of my Apollo Twin X and it gives me the option to record on the go. No regrets.

I was looking at getting one of those babies a while - finally took the decision to invest in a Quad Satellite. Mainly I wanted to ged the AMS and Empirical Labs Plug-Ins, but then got the Capitol Records Chambers and Ocean Way Studios as well. What can I say - I am really impressed and do not regret a single euro spent. Next mission: Add an OCTO :-)

I concur, adding the Octo Thunderbolt3 satellite to my rig sets everything loose! The Apollo Twin X Quad is awesome, but adding 8 more sharcs, whew!

OCTO gives you wings
Starting with an Apollo quad, the additional 8 chips puts me at 12 and I am flying! Even with an M1 mac, offloading DSP using UAD plugins keeps my system lag and crash-free. Finally, I can run multiple reverb and delay busses... it's really a dream come true. I tried the alternatives, and encountered problems. With UAD, I record near zero-latency and get to focus on creation without freezing tracks. Worth it for the freedom.

This is great unit to take the plugin load off your cpu. That is if you use a plugins on single instances. I tried using tape simulation on all 20 channels of audio and that would be ok if that’s all you were going to do. If you want to use more then you’ll need another box. The plugins are great if you don’t have the hardwares. Very good simulation.
